Fighting Discriminatory Sanctions :
Alena Bekker v Germany
German entrepreneur Alena Bekker, of Belarusian descent, was unjustly targeted through EU sanctions despite full compliance with legal regulations. These sanctions severely disrupted her business operations, highlighting the political misuse of economic measures.
Our Actions
JPTi submitted a formal complaint to the UN Special Rapporteur on the negative impacts of unilateral coercive measures and advocated for Bekker’s rights through oral interventions at the UN Human Rights Council. This led to increased scrutiny of the sanctions regime by German policymakers.
Resolution
Our efforts spurred inquiries by members of the German Parliament, prompting discussions on the need to reform sanctions policies to prevent their arbitrary application against entrepreneurs, thereby protecting business rights.
