Ambassador Craig Murray represented Justice Pour Tous Internationale at the 140th session of the UN Human Rights Committee in Geneva on 11 March 2024. He highlighted human rights concerns in the United Kingdom, particularly the misuse of counter-terrorism and state security laws. The association presented a statement urging the UK to halt the extradition of Julian Assange, emphasizing the right to freedom of speech and the public interest in exposing state misconduct. Additionally, in an informal session, Murray discussed his own experience under the UK’s Terrorism Act 2000, showcasing the misuse of anti-terrorism laws against political advocates. Justice Pour Tous Internationale reaffirmed its commitment to human rights, advocating for global respect for international law.

In a critical advocacy effort, Ambassador Craig Murray Esq. represented Justice for All International at the 140th session of the UN Human Rights Committee in Geneva, bringing to light pressing human rights issues. Our participation involved a comprehensive presentation during the formal meeting on 11 March 2024, focusing on the examination of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland’s 8th report, and the troubling use of counter-terrorism and state security laws within the UK.

During the formal session, Justice for All International presented a detailed statement concerning the case of Julian Assange. We urged the members of the Committee to call the UK Government to stop extradition and release #Assange. We highlighted significant legal considerations, emphasizing the importance of freedom of speech and the right to information, amidst the UK’s judicial system’s lack of recognition of the public interest in disclosed state actions of grave concern.

Furthermore, in an informal meeting with the members of the Committee, we presented the distressing case of Mr. Craig Murray, Esq., a former British Ambassador and a dedicated human rights defender. Mr Murray’s experience under Schedule 7 of the UK Terrorism Act 2000 exemplifies the alarming misuse of anti-terrorism legislation against individuals engaged in non-violent political advocacy. His unwavering support for the #Palestinian cause and his efforts to expose injustices have led to significant repercussions, including his self-exile outside of the UK.

These discussions at the UN Human Rights Committee underscore Justice for All International’s commitment to advocating for human rights, challenging injustices, and promoting a global dialogue that respects international law. We extend our deepest appreciation to Ambassador Craig Murray for his articulate representation of our concerns and to the Committee members for their engagement with these critical issues.
