Justice pour Tous Internationale submitted a communication to the six UN Special Procedures mandate holders, demanding immediate action to stop the political persecution and abuse of state security legislation against Aivo Peterson. He was charged with treason in September 2023 due to allegations that he helped Russia to undermine Estonia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. He was subjected to several human rights violations because of his peaceful political activities and expressions. The legal instruments used against him constitute de facto Strategic Litigation Against Public Participation (SLAPP). The association therefore called on the Estonian authorities to halt these actions and uphold the rule of law.
