JPTi is proud to have participated in the International Conference on "A Clean and Sustainable Environment – Guarantee for the Protection of Human Rights", held on 27-28 February 2025 in Tashkent & Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
Our Executive Director, Sharof Azizov, had the honour of moderating Session III: "Obligations of States and International Organisations in Ensuring Environmental Rights", where experts engaged in vital discussions on legal obligations of states under international law to protect environmental rights; the role of international organisations in environment security and policy reinforcements; mechanisms for holding parties accountable for environmental violations; the role of civil society and the media in increasing transparency; successful international cooperation models; and necessary legal and policy reforms to strengthen environmental accountability.
We extend our gratitude to the distinguished panelists who shared invaluable insights:

As outlined in the Tashkent Declaration, a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment is fundamental to human rights, and ensuring environmental accountability remains a shared responsibility.
Key takeaways and next steps include strengthening legal frameworks to uphold environmental rights globally; an expansion of accountability mechanisms for both states and private actors; enhancing civil society and media engagement to increase transparency; and leveraging innovative technologies to improve environmental governance.
On the second day of the conference, JPTi joined a field trip to Samarkand, where all participants had the unique opportunity to plant trees in the Uzbek Ombudsman Garden, contributing to a greener future.
